Formations is a collection of macro photographs documenting the tiny details on surfaces, and presented as large format pieces. These are images of the everyday materials and ingredients for the things that are ubiquitous in our lives; photographs of artificial and environmentally problematic materials like plasticĀ wrap and packaging that is so unavoidable, intermixed with photographs of calcite, quartz, and limestone; ingredients for concrete and the base building materials we rely on. I find the process of observing these to be unwieldy. Sometimes a sliver of calcite feels like a snowy landscape, or a sheet of plastic seems to be constructed of handwritten tick marks; an experience both instructional and haunting.
